  • Rocketing ecstatically between sadness and joyfulness, Natacha Diels’s Beautiful Trouble is an evening-length ‘opera’ (as dramatic spectacle) for JACK Quartet that explores a slim window of human existence. Moments gathered like precious stones coalesce to create both sense and nonsense, forming a logic all the piece’s own. Organizing the stones just so reveals clarity in chaos, if only for a moment.

  • The neglected, though not forgotten rites of the Medieval musical arts illuminate the musical manuscript anew as JACK explores the connections of musicality and thought between European composers of the past and the voices of American music today.

  • Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Luther Adams emerged from decades of full-time environmental activism with a rich artistic voice and a belief that music can do more to change the world than politics.

About Us

We’re JACK Quartet, a string quartet that champions music by 20th- and 21st-century composers.

We curate and perform programs that include a variety of musical styles by established and under-represented artists. With each program, we aspire to create transformative experiences. The music we play asks audiences to listen with their whole beings. With close listening, music has the power to broaden perspectives.

Since our founding in 2005, we have been introducing audiences world-wide to a range of experimental chamber music. We perform everywhere from classical music halls to art galleries to bars. We commission new music and collaborate with composers to bring it to life–and we do some of that work through our very own JACK Studio. We’re the Quartet in Residence at The New School in New York City, and we teach at music festivals, conservatories, and universities.
