Julia Bumke

Julia Bumke is the Executive Director for JACK Music Inc., the nonprofit contemporary music organization behind JACK Quartet. In this role, Julia shapes JACK’s nonprofit to support how the quartet contracts, commissions, and premieres new works each season. She serves as JACK’s in-house producer for everything from recording sessions and multimedia projects to international tours, in addition to nearly 30 concurrent commissions each season and the JACK Studio mentorship program. Julia has held administrative roles in fundraising, strategic planning, writing, and publicity with Sō Percussion, PlayPenn, The Wilma Theater, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and the American Repertory Theater.

Julia is also a new work dramaturg and creative producer who specializes in music-theater and opera, collaborating with composers, librettists, and playwrights at all stages of their careers. She was the guest producer of the 2022 Look + Listen Festival, and recent/upcoming projects include premieres and workshops with Oberlin Conservatory, Passage Theatre Company, Opera Philadelphia, Curtis Institute of Music, PlayPenn, PEAK Performances at Montclair State University, the American Repertory Theater, Lincoln Center Theater, and the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. She received her A.B. from Princeton, and her dual M.F.A. degree in Dramaturgy from A.R.T.’s Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard and the Moscow Art Theater.
